Woodlawn Family Bible Study
FRIDAY

BIBLE READING:  Psalms 37:4

MAIN IDEA: “Joy”

DISCUSSION
When you walk into Wal-Mart on Cloverdale Road, there is a good chance that you will be greeted by a pleasant, friendly gentleman who makes you feel very welcome. If you ask him how he is doing, he will usually respond "Blessed and then some," or "Blessed by the best." That is after he gives you a big warm smile and asks about your day.  I have often thought about his attitude. Recently, I asked him a question to which I was sure I knew the answer. I asked him to tell me why he was always so happy. His response was, "Because God is good, always!" That was the answer I expected.

When someone chooses to trust in God and follow Jesus, he will naturally be happy.  While we don't always control what happens to us, we can control our response.  If we are in Jesus with a promise of eternal life, should we really ever be unhappy? Yes, we may hurt or suffer from the bad things that happen in this life. However, we still have every reason to approach each day with a good attitude.  When we trust in God and live according to his teachings, we have made a choice that will ensure our joy.  Helen Keller once said, "Many persons have the wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose."  What more worthy purpose can we have than to show Christ living in us through service to others?

APPLICATION: What are some ways you can show others how Christ lives in you?
