“Do Your Job”
BIBLE
READING: Matthew 25
Last
week I heard a preacher give a lesson on his favorite person in the
Bible. He gave people an opportunity to guess who it could be, of course
you got the standard answers like: Jesus, God, Moses and Peter. However,
none of these possibilities were even close. His favorite Bible character
was a man that did not even have a name; we simply refer to him as the
two-talent man. You see, he wasn’t as blessed as the five-talent man, but he
was blessed more than the one talent man. What makes him so special is
just as much about what you don’t see as it is what you do see. You don’t
see the two-talent man complaining about not getting as much as the five-talent
man, you simple see him using the gifts that he was given to gain more.
What if we were more like the two-talent man? Would we begin to question
as to why we did not receive as many talents as the five-talent man? Why not
four-talents, or three, why only two? Are we not just as good as the one who had
received the five-talents? I would venture to say that we would be more
like that example than we would have been of the example we have in
Scripture. The example we have recorded in Matthew 25 is very simple, to
the point and yet so profound, “And he also who had the two talents
came forward, saying, 'Master, you delivered to me two talents; here I have
made two talents more.' His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful
servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter
into the joy of your master.' (Matthew 25:22-23). It seems
from the Scripture that when the two-talent man received his two talents, he
used them and gained two more. Before it is all said and done, Nick Saban may be
the greatest college football coach to have ever lived. He has been so
successful because his philosophy is so simple “Do your job!” He
understands that if we are truly focused on what we can do, we don’t have to
worry about what everyone else is or is not doing. By doing our job or
using our two-talents to the fullest, we are controlling what we can
control. What about you? Are you a two-talent, one talent, or you
may even be a five talent? Use what you have, do what you can and then
God will give the
increase.
