“Worthy”
BIBLE READING: Revelation 5
The
focus of John’s vision now shifts from the throne in chapter 4 to the scroll in
chapter 5. There is a lot of debate as
to what exactly is the scroll. There are
many theories. Some believe it is the
rest of the book (of Revelation). Some
believe it is the same scroll and message that is bound in Daniel 12. Some believe it is the entire Bible. What it is, is not as important in this
chapter. It is important to note that it
is sealed with seven seals, and the strong angel is looking for someone who is
not “strong enough,” but rather “worthy enough”. No one is found… except one.
Verse
5: “But one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the
Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven
seals.’” Why is Jesus, the Lion of the
tribe of Judah, found worthy? Verse 9
says, “For You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of
every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us kings and
priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.” It is because of His death, burial, and
resurrection that He is found worthy. He
is the Lion of Judah. His preeminence
and being worthy are the focus of chapter 5.
How
wonderful it is to be able to look to such a loving and powerful Savior!
