“How is your FAITH?”
BIBLE READING: Revelation 3
Revelation
3 continues the address to the seven churches of Asia. As we listen to what is said to the churches,
we can continue to find that our spiritual walk, our faith, may sometimes
reflect what is being said to them.
Sometimes
we may find ourselves like Sardis. We
may be relying on our Christian reputation to continue to carry us through
life. We may have been busy for God in
the past, and now we are “coasting”.
Sardis is described as having “a reputation of being alive, but you are
dead.” (v1) If this is the case, we need
to WAKE UP! (v2) Remember what we were
like in the past, revive it, and move forward.
We need to find ourselves clothed in white like the faithful few at
Sardis since Jesus says, “I will never blot out the name of that person from
the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his
angels.” (v5)
Sometimes
we may find ourselves like Philadelphia.
We may think we are not as talented as others. We may think that we don’t have as large of
an influence as others. But, the church
at Philadelphia was small, but strong.
If we are worried that we may not be great in the church God has
created, we can realize that we have great significance… in God’s eyes …
towards our fellow brethren … to the world around us. We are encouraged to “endure patiently”
(v10).
And,
sometimes we find ourselves like Laodicea.
This is most likely the most famous of the seven churches. They are known for the lukewarmness. It’s possible that we find ourselves that
way, and Jesus wants to “spit you out of my mouth.” (v16) How detestable for the Son of God to say
that! Are we lukewarm? He would rather us be on fire for Him!
Where
does our faith stand? If it’s not where
we want it to be, what are we doing about it?
