“Lacking Nothing…”
BIBLE READING: Revelation 3- 7
Have you ever met someone who has everything they need? They
have an impressive house, a nice car, a good job, a big TV, the latest iPhone,
a closet full of designer clothes, and a fridge stocked full with any and all
ingredients. They go out to eat whenever they want. If they want to update a
space in their house, they do it. And if there’s an important game in town,
you’ll see them with season tickets in the front row.
The church at
Laodicea was a group of Christians who trusted in their wealth to buy them
everything. Their sin wasn’t that they had a lot of money, but it was when
their bank account got to their head, and instead of praising God for it, they
no longer felt a need for Him. In their eyes, they were set. Sure, they may
have prayed and attended church, but it was only in moderation and there was no
feeling or thought behind it.
But being a
Christian has always meant having a relationship with Christ, and John made it
clear in this passage from Revelation that those who simply go through the motions
or place their confidence elsewhere are missing out on cultivating a true
connection with Jesus.
However, for
anyone who sees their need for salvation, for anyone who realizes their
imperfections, for anyone who recognizes they crave more than this world has to
offer, Jesus stands at the door knocking. Anyone who welcomes Him in and
cultivates an intimate relationship with Him will then experience what it means
to truly be rich beyond measure and lack nothing. -Selected
