“An Awesome Experience”


BIBLE READING: Luke 24
DISCUSSION                                       
          You can hardly believe your eyes…He is right in front of you!  You know He was dead, you saw Him on that cross, you have been mourning His death for the last few days, and now He is right in front of you!
            That must have been just a few of the thoughts that were going through the minds of the apostles in Luke 24 as Jesus appears to them after His resurrection.  It’s no wonder they were startled and frightened; you would be too if you thought you were seeing a ghost.  You draw near to him and reluctantly touch Him, because you know it is against Jewish custom to touch a dead body.  You begin to contemplate the ramifications of touching a body that was dead and is now…clearly NOT!  Then as you still can’t believe what is happening, you hear Jesus say this, “Have you anything to eat?”.  EAT?  EAT?  How in the world can He think about food at a time like this!!  I wonder if the thought ever crossed their mind, “Being raised from the dead, must be hard work…I bet Jesus is famished!”  (I doubt it, but that is just how I think!) I’m sure Jesus was hungry because He had really been without food for days, but I don’t think that is reason He asked.  By eating food and drinking drink, He is solidifying the fact that He is not a ghost, but in fact a risen human being.  What an awesome experience!

BIBLE READING : Job 3. 1-26 “I wish I had never been born,” Job said to his friends. “I wish that my birthday was just wiped off of the calendar as though it never happened.” Who could blame him? The loss that he had endured in mere moments had been catastrophic. Job had experienced a wonderful life until that day, when all he had known changed. I know that many people have endured tragic losses, but Job’s defeat seems unfathomable. Isn’t it ironic that, although Job’s comments brought him so much pain, they can bring us so much joy? My mother always taught me that, no matter how bad I may think things are, someone else always is suffering more than I am.
