“Stand Firm”

BIBLE READING: 2 Chronicles 17-20

Doesn’t it seem as though just when things are seemingly going smooth, we are hit out of nowhere with a situation, a problem, a crisis?  Something so bad and fierce we can’t even begin to see a solution or a way that doesn’t come with great pain and sorrow.  We have all been there!  We have all faced a situation in which the odds against us were so great, we had no idea what we would do.  The nation of Judah faced one of those situations in 2 Chronicles 20.  The nations of Moab, Ammon and some of the Meunites were coming up in great hordes with the intention of destroying the kingdom of Judah.  When word of their impending attack reaches King Jehoshaphat, he becomes afraid.  He proclaims a kingdom wide fast and assembled the entire nation to come together at once to seek the face of the LORD.  Although he could not come up with a solution or a way out on his own, he did know whom he could trust for answers.  Even in his prayer he prayed “…we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us.  We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” (2 Chronicles 20.12) Just imagine the faith that he had in the power of God!  How many times have you faced a situation, a problem, a crisis and prayed to God something like “Lord…I am so lost…I have no idea what I am going to do in this situation, but my eyes are on You!”  When we are at a loss and don’t know what our next course of action is to be, that is the time to ensure we keep our eyes focused on God.  If we can do that, He will come to our rescue.  When we look back to the story of Judah and the impending raid that was coming their way, the LORD answers their prayer.  Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God’s” (2 Chronicles 20.15).  The prophet of the LORD instructs the people to just “Stand firm”.  As they “stand firm” they see that the LORD delivers them out of their crisis and all they had to do was trust and obey.   What a great lesson for us today!  It doesn’t matter how difficult of a situation or battle we must face, when we give it to the LORD, it becomes His battle and not ours.  All we must do is stand firm and trust Him and He will continue to be our Deliverer!  So, whatever fight you keep trying to fight on your own, give it to God… I’m sure He can handle it!
