“Hope, because it Will Get Better”
BIBLE
READING: 1 Peter 1
Francis Bacon (1561-1626) once said
“Hope is a good breakfast, but it is a bad supper.” The implication of that statement is that
hope sometimes can seem to be a word of desperation. Hope sounds good, but it seems that the
longer we hold out, the less hope that we have.
People hope for all kinds of reasons.
Duane Warden said in his book (“Truth for Today Commentary: An
Exegesis and Application of the Holy Scriptures: 1 & 2 Peter and Jude”)
“A fool hopes because he is ignorant, lazy or both. A desperate man hopes
because reality is too much to bear.
Yet, a wise man may hope to. He hopes because reason tells him to hope.
Difficulties can be endured when there is a reason to believe the future will
be better.” Peter is writing to a group
of Christians who have been scattered because of persecution, they are hurting,
they are in pain and some are dying. The
Holy Spirit inspires Peter to give these Christians a reason to keep their hope
alive,
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living
hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance
that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by
God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be
revealed in the last time.” (1 Peter 1:3-5)
This hope is given, because they
know that their difficulties can be endured because the future will be
better. Whatever you are struggling
with, whatever pain you are enduring, have hope because of your faith in
Christ, because it will get better!
