BIBLE READING:  Matthew 25:1-13

Don’t you just hate that feeling of being unprepared? That feeling you had when your teacher was handing out that quiz and you knew you were not even the least bit ready. That empty feeling you got in the pit of your stomach when you know you were supposed to have something but you showed up empty handed and everyone knew it. That is one of those feeling that, as much as you can help it, you never want to feel again. There is one sure fire way to make sure that you never want to feel that uncomfortable again. Are you ready? You may want to get a pencil and jot this down, because this is important. BE PREPARED. That’s it! That is all it takes!

In Matthew 25, Jesus tells a parable of the ten virgins who took their lamps to meet the bridegroom before the wedding. Five of these virgins were prepared, as they had their flasks full of oil for their lamps. However, the other five were foolish and did not take any oil with them at all. When the bridegroom was delayed, they all fell asleep, but at midnight the cry came that the bridegroom was coming. They all rose and trimmed their lamps, but those   foolish did not have any and had to go to the dealers to buy some. Sadly, while they were gone, the bridegroom came and those who were prepared went into the feast and shut the door. When the five foolish returned, it was too late, and they had missed their opportunity.

That is the way it will be when the Lord returns. As we wait some are prepared, still others show no immediate concern for being ready. So we must all “watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour” (Matthew 25:13). The good thing about that test that I wasn’t ready for, I got over it. Although I remember those feelings of being unprepared. They have been long ago replaced by other feelings. Although, I remember it well, I do not have to worry about that test and that failing grade ever again because that is over. But with this one, if I am caught unprepared for this one, I will be haunted by that feeling for an eternity.

Application: So again here its the simple solution, BE PREPARED, because we don’t know when He will return.
