“No Fear”

BIBLE READING: Matthew 9-10
As the disciples are sent out to the “lost sheep of the House of Israel” in Matthew 10, Jesus gives them a few valuable instructions.   He begins with a warning, concerning what type of people they will face.  Then He reminds them that they will face some type of persecution, whether it is emotional or physical.  However, even during all of these warnings we find this word of encouragement “Have no fear of them… do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28).  Jesus wants to remind them the only person they should fear is Him!  When we stand before the judgment seat of Christ, it is He that will pronounce to us our justification or our condemnation.   He is the one that we should be afraid of.  The word “fear” means to “be in awe of”, “respect” or “revere”.   It is He that created us and it is He that can destroy us, therefore we must have caution of Him, not what man can do to us!
