BE an Encourager

Barnabas was known as the “Son of Encouragement” in the early church. That’s a pretty     awesome title to have!! What could he possibly have done on a daily basis to earn that title? I’m sure the benevolence shown in Acts 4 wasn’t the only action that earned him that title. As a matter of fact, the phrase daily basis probably had a lot to do with it. Do you know someone “Encouraging”? What characteristics and actions do they show that make you think that? Is it a consistent, daily behavior or just randomly on certain days? No doubt, whoever this person is, you probably leave the conversation or encounter feeling a little better about yourself than before. As family members, the ability to “Encourage” is that much more important. Why?    Because we see each other on a much more regular basis. Examine yourself for a moment. Am I “Encouraging”? Can my spouse, children, and other family members count on me to boost them up, or do they leave feeling discouraged and worse than before? God’s word makes it very clear that we are to “Edify” or encourage each other in God’s family when we assemble and even at other times throughout the week.  No doubt Barnabas had a big part in the Church flourishing in the book of Acts, the same can be said about those today who strive to be “Encouraging”!!
