“You Can’t Stop God”

BIBLE READING: Jeremiah 35-37

Jeremiah 36 contains the story of God telling Jeremiah to write all the judgments He has against Judah on a scroll and read it in the temple. Jeremiah gets Baruch to write down the words he says and take the scroll to the temple to read them out. Some of the princes heard the words and were afraid, and decided they must tell the King, but first they told Baruch and Jeremiah to hide unless the king didn’t like what he heard. He didn’t. In fact, it says he wasn’t even frightened, but he threw the scroll into the fire and ordered the men to seize Baruch and Jeremiah. However, the LORD hid the two, and ordered them to write down another scroll.

If there is anything that we can learn about God’s will, it is that God’s will cannot be thwarted.  God’s work will always get done, no matter how much adversity there is against it.  Jonah tried to run away from God, but God found him.  Elijah thought he was all alone in his efforts for God yet, God’s will was still accomplished. Jeremiah decided that he would not speak any more in the name of God, yet God’s word became a fire within him that he could not contain.

“Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote on it at the instruction of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire. And besides, there were added to them many similar words.”-Jeremiah 36:32 Go against God, and God will just strengthen His plan! We must submit to His will so that we fit in with His plans.
