“The Brevity of Life”

BIBLE READING: Genesis 4-7
The life span of an average human being in 2019 is seventy-one years old.  To a four-year-old child that could seem like an eternity, but to a 68-year-old man it seems like the blink of an eye.  I guess it is all relative depending on whose point of view you are looking at.  However, 969 years old is a long time; I don’t care who you are.  Just imagine if today were Methuselah’s 969th birthday.  That would mean that Methuselah would have been born in the year 1051, only one year after the Julian calendar began.  In 1492 when Columbus sailed the ocean blue, Methuselah would have been in his forties…his four hundred and forties.  It sure is strange to imagine seeing 969 birthdays, or 969 Valentine’s Day and how hard would it be to have to experience 969 Tax days.  Methuselah would have not only have known your great grandparents, he may have worked with your great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandparents.  Living a life that long is very hard for us to relate too, so what lesson can we learn from someone that did?  If we only live seventy-one years, then we must make sure we live each day of those seventy-one years to the fullest.  We must take advantage of every moment we have in this life, because we are only given so few.  In reality, it doesn’t matter how long we live on this earth, it just matters how we live on this earth! Take advantage of today, it is a gift; use it wisely because you may not get another one.
