Bible Reading: Esther 4. 1-17
DISCUSSION

Have you ever been at that point in your life when every force in the universe seems to be going against you? It may be that you can’t catch up on your bills, your marriage is in shambles, you are hearing rumors of lay-offs at work, you are having to sit and care for your parent’s, your car needs a new engine, the doctor told you that it may be cancer and, oh yeah, someone ran over your dog this morning. If this describes you, then I am so sorry and I will be praying for you! We have to remember that just when we think things are bad and they can’t get any worse, they usually do. However, I do have some good news for you today. Are you paying attention because this is very important? God has placed you right where you are, so that He can do something amazing through you! Isn’t that awesome! God is going to use you right where you are in the midst of all of your problems. Don’t believe me? Watch this…In the book of Esther, King Ahasuerus has selected Esther to be his queen. Who wouldn’t want Esther as their queen? The Bible says she “had a beautiful figure and was lovely to look at” (Esther 2.7). While she is queen, Haman is plotting to get Ahasuerus to destroy all the Jews. There is just one problem, Esther is a Jew, but neither the King nor Haman knows it. When this plot is uncovered by Esther and her cousin Mordecai, she is afraid and doesn’t know what to do. You think you have it bad? If she squeals, she could die along with the entire Jewish nation. If she remains silent, she might live, yet would have to live with the fact that the entire nation was slaughtered and she did nothing. Mordecai offers her this piece of advice: “For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4. 14). Maybe, just maybe, she became the queen for this very reason- to allow God to use her and do something wonderful. I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but she does and He does and great things are done! Maybe you have fallen on some tough times, and maybe it is worse than it has ever been before, but maybe, just maybe, you are in the position so that God can use you to do something wonderful! Don’t give up just yet; just give in to His will and allow Him to work through you!
