TUESDAY

BIBLE READING:  1 Peter 2:11-20  

 MAIN IDEA: “Develop an Honorable Reputation”

 DISCUSSION:  
As Christians, we must be extra careful concerning our actions in a society like we are living in today.  Peter tells us, “When you do good, you stop ignorant people from saying foolish things about you. This is what God wants” (1 Peter 2:15).

 As we associate with people in our daily lives we should always remember that we are representing more than just ourselves. As a Christian you are an ambassador for God. The influence you rub off on someone will be critical in representing a Christian and how others feel about the church. The influence we make on our society is going to be critical in establishing an honorable reputation. 

 As Christians we should show respect to people and the customs in which our society has determined honorable, when it does not violate our conscience or interfere with the law of God (Acts 4: 18-20; 1 Peter 2:11-20). 

 APPLICATION: 
Ask yourself these questions. 

  • Is my word good enough to please God? 
  • Is my reputation where it should be? 
  • As a family what is our reputation in our neighborhood?

BIBLE READING: Luke 14 DISCUSSION                                                                                       Boston Globe's account in June 1990 of a most unusual wedding banquet… Accompanied by her fiancé, a woman went to the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Boston and ordered the meal. “Is there Joy in your Heart?”

  DISCUSSION:                              There are so many things going on in this world today that it is easy to let worry have more room in our heart than happiness. In the medical world, we are constantly being reminded of the preventive medicine we need. Unlike 60 years ago when health only entered our minds when we got sick, today we are told continually of so much that can happen to our health if we don’t have this test run, take this pill, or get this shot to prevent some type of virus infecting us. If you allow it, you can give this too much attention. Of course, it is important to have good health. As we get older it really seems to get a lot more of our attention.
