“There is Power in the Pause”

BIBLE READING: 2 Kings 18. 9-37, 19.1-37; Psalms 46, 80, 135
As you read through the book of Psalms, you will inevitably come to a word with which you are not familiar.  The word “Selah” is found seventy-one times within the book of Psalms.  As for its definition, no one can be completely sure; although it does seem to be a musical term.  Many people believe this to be a musical term that signifies a place in the psalm that requires a brief pause.  Within our reading for the day that does seem to fit the message of Psalm 46.  The word “Selah” is used three times in this short song. However, if we take it to mean that we should take a pause to reflect on the words that we have just read or sung about, then maybe there should be a fourth.  In Psalm 46.10, the writer writes, “Be still, and know that I am God.” The writer seems to want us to take an extra moment to pause in reflect in the fact that God, is God.  There is much power in pausing to reflecting on God; it helps us to find a true perspective of our own humanity.  It allows us to ponder on how wonderful and awesome God has been and continues to be for us.  There is much wisdom in us taking time out of our busy schedule to help us understand who is really in charge of the affairs of this world, as well as our lives.  Pick a few random times for the day and set an alarm for yourself on your phone to simply just pause to Be still, and know that HE is God!
