"God, the Creator of Sexuality"

BIBLE READING: Song of Solomon 1-8
As God was wrapping up the creation, he saw that it was not good for man to be alone, so he created man’s perfect counterpart; woman.  We find in the Garden of Eden the origin and example of sexual intimacy as God designed it.    We have within our God given genetic makeup a longing for physical contact and fulfillment. Sexuality has, and will always be, a hot topic issue among us because it is the core of the existence of humanity. There have always been avenues and opportunities for people to gather an understanding about what sexuality and marital intimacy are all about.   In today’s world, with the rise of technology being at our fingertips, it is easier to find that information now more than ever.  The problem lays in that most of that information offers an inaccurate description of what God had originally intended.  We must be careful not to fall into the trap of allowing ourselves, or our children’s understanding of sexuality, to come from a source outside of God. That may be the reason God placed the book of Song of Solomon within our Bibles.   The book describes sexuality in the way that God originally intended for it to be, between a man and woman.  Written by King Solomon, the Song of Solomon is a wedding song. It’s a celebration of the freedom and intimacy between a husband and wife.
God’s intent for sex was nothing like the self-gratifying, casual exchange we see on TV and among friends. Sex, as God designed it, is a holy union illustrated perfectly in these ongoing conversations between a husband and wife.  As you study it, I pray that it offers you an understanding of God’s design for man and woman.
