BIBLE READING: 2 Timothy 4. 1-8
Discussion:

How is your health? Overall, most people consider themselves to be fairly healthy. They do think that they could stand to lose a few pounds, probably because they enjoy occasional fast food lunch; but overall..healthy! If we were totally honest with ourselves, most of us are not in as good of health as we could be. Also have you noticed that people even go in denial when the doctor says they have health concerns that need to be addressed? No one likes to be told that they ear poorly or that they are overweight. So why is it that an unhealthy person would consider themselves healthy when they just aren’t? Don’t we do the same thing with our spiritual life? If a survey were to be conducted most people believe they are going to heaven. Oh, they could stand to read their Bible more, attend a few more worship services, and they do dabble in few things that may be considered sinful; but overall…YES, WE ARE GOING TO HEAVEN! How is it possible that the road to destruction is wide and the majority will travel it, yet only a handful of people will admit they are lost? In both cases, the only person we are fooling is our self! The Bible told us that there would come a day when unhealthy people would consider themselves healthy, and unspiritual people would consider themselves spiritual. Paul said “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears; they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths” (2 Timothy 4. 3-4). The word “sound” in the Greek simply means “healthy”. So today, be honest with yourself. How “healthy” are you?
